For her outstanding work for patients, her leadership skills and absolute sheer energy, we have conferred honorary membership on Susan Oliver. Many of you will know that Susan is chair of the Royal College of Nursing Rheumatology Forum, and she has worked unstintingly for both patients and health professionals.
Droitwich Lecture 2007
The BHPR 2007 Droitwich Lecture was given by Professor Sarah Hewlett, Arthritis Research Campaign (arc) Professor of Rheumatology and Nursing at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol.
In this stimulating lecture Sarah explored the problem of fatigue in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), sharing her wealth of experience and set it within the context of how greater collaboration with patients is expanding the focus of rheumatology research. The importance of fatigue in RA as an outcome and its importance to patients were emphasised. This overwhelming problem affects almost all patients and has an impact on everything they do.
At the conclusion of her excellent lecture Sarah announced the development of a rheumatology fatigue research group and asked for volunteers or interested parties. Further details are available directly from Sarah: sarah.hewlett@bristol.ac.uk or sarah.hewlett@uwe.ac.uk.
