Guidance

  • There are over 30 categories for abstract submissions, see the list.
  • There is a 3,050 character limit for the text of your abstract submission. This includes punctuation and non-visible characters such as spaces (the count will include the abstract body and tables, but will not count authors and institutions).
  • The abstract should be structured into the following sections:
a. Title (clearly indicating the nature of the investigation)
b. Background
c. Methods
d. Results
e. Conclusions
  • Abstracts can be saved in "Draft" status to be finalised later, up until the submission deadline.
  • Only fully completed abstracts will be considered for the conference.
  • Submitted abstracts can be reedited and modified until the submission deadline.
  • By submitting an abstract, the presenting author commits to presenting the abstract (if accepted) orally or as a poster in the session and the time assigned by the Heberden Committee. We therefore ask that authors of accepted abstracts register for the conference by 3 February 2012.
  • Third-party additional guidance for BHPR abstract submissions is available from the Defining Research publication by NHS National Patient Safety Agency (we refer you to the table contained in this publication). View Defining Research.

Instructions for Abstract Presentations

  • If an abstract is selected for oral presentation, the presenting author will be requested to present it in the assigned session. Details will be communicated to the author by the end of December 2011.
  • If an abstract is accepted as a poster presentation, the presenting author must be at their poster during the corresponding poster viewing session.
  • If an abstract is accepted as a poster presentation, it may additionally be included as part of a poster tour for a two minute presentation and discussion during the corresponding poster tour session.
  • Posters will be set up within the exhibition hall
  • The posters need to be printed landscape. The surface of the display panels measures 100 cm (height) x 200 cm (width); adhesive material will be provided.
  • Please use letters large enough to be read from a distance.
