Membership categories
Ordinary
Open to anyone
working or normally resident in the United Kingdom or Republic of
Ireland who has a special interest or experience in any field relevant
to rheumatology. In addition to usual membership benefits, privileges
include the right to vote at business meetings and eligibility for
election to office, to serve on Council and to nominate candidates for
office and membership.
Overseas
Open to anyone working or normally
resident outside the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, who has an
interest or experience in any field relevant to rheumatology.
Applicants who have worked in the UK at some stage in their career, and
those who are likely to attend BSR meetings are particularly welcome.
No voting rights.
Reduced rate
Open to ordinary members earning below
the threshold wage, £30,992 in 2011 (reviewed annually). This category of membership is only
available to UK applicants. Independent confirmation of earnings is
required.
Retired
Open to ordinary members who retire from
practice – either from reaching customary age of retirement, or through
ill health. There are two rates for Retired Membership: the higher rate
includes receipt of the hard copy journal,
Rheumatology; the lower rate
does not include the hard copy journal. Full online access to the
journal
Rheumatology is included with both rates. No voting rights.
Non-clinical scientist
Open to applicants in a
non-clinical, non-tenured scientific post. Confirmation of employment
status is required. Those in a tenured post are not eligible for this category. Privileges
do not include receipt of the hard copy journal
Rheumatology, although
full online access is provided.
Tenured scientist
Open to scientists working in
a tenured position. This category of membership is only available to UK
applicants. Independent confirmation of employment status is required.
