Statement for Calls on Osteoporosis Survey
The British Society for Rheumatology is aware of the survey carried out to gauge the opinion of osteoporosis specialists about the proposed National Institute of Clinical Excellence guidance on the secondary prevention of post-menopausal osteoporotic fractures. It is regrettable that only a quarter of those experts surveyed are convinced, based on their assessment, judgment and clinical experience, that NICE's appraisal will permit appropriate therapy for individual cases. The majority have significant concerns about the overall thrust of NICE's appraisal which they believe will compromise and undermine standards of care with regard to the secondary prevention of osteoporotic fractures. BSR has written to NICE as part of the appraisal process to voice our concerns.
