BSR Statement on the withdrawal of Vioxx

The British Society for Rheumatology views with concern the report that Vioxx has been withdrawn by Merck because of long term safety concerns. It would be advisable for patients on Vioxx to consult their GP or rheumatologist as soon as possible with a view to finding a safe alternative treatment.
