The British Society for Rheumatology notes the recent legal action taken in the US against Merck, the producers of Vioxx, and concerns that there have been potential breaches of licensing. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has been, and is currently, investigating these claims and we await the outcome of this investigation.
Vioxx was withdrawn from the market in September 2004.
Patients concerned about the potential side effects of Vioxx or any other drug treatment for arthritis should contact their GP or rheumatologist at the earliest opportunity
