Regional recruitment reports

Ankylosing Spondylitis - BSRBR-AS

The BSRBR-AS recruited their 2,000th participant at the Royal Cornwall Hospital on the 14th of July. ‘This is an important milestone for our study – thank you all for your continued support!’ (BSRBR-AS Team)

In May the AS register saw the best recruitment ever, with 55 new participants joining the non-biologics cohort and 19 joining the biologics cohort. If your centre is registered to recruit to the AS Register, please keep up the recruitment – we’re especially keen to recruiting any Cimzia AS patients.

Rheumatoid Arthritis – BSRBR-RA

Despite considerable efforts, recruitment levels for the RA register had been on the decrease since 2013. However, in March of this year we saw a peak in recruitment for all cohorts and figures steadily increasing in the first quarter of 2016. This is fantastic news and we would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ and well done to all.

The data you and your teams submit is continually analysed and the latest publication from data to the BSRBR-RA is: ‘Most patients who reach disease remission following anti-TNF therapy continue to report fatigue: results from the British Society for Rheumatology Biologics Register for Rheumatoid Arthritis’ Katie L. Druce et al Rheumatology (2016) doi: 10.1093/rheumatology/kew241 First published online: June 21, 2016.

Regional League Table: 1 Jan – 31 July 2016

  • Scotland has an outstanding lead with 101 recruited to the AS register
  • The average recruitment figures have almost doubled when compared to the previous 6 months
  • East of England have more than tripled their ‘per 100k pop. served’ from 1.20 – 3.64
  • Mersey is the most improved region, moving from 11th to 3rd place on the table

Benepali joins the BSRBR-RA

This is the first etanercept biosimilar to be launched in the UK and joins Inflectra and Remsima on the RA register. We are now recruiting patients newly prescribed or switching to Benepali to be able to monitor the safety and effectiveness of biosimilars over a long-term period. Please continue to support this world leading register and register all patients starting Benepali or any other biosimilar. Please contact the helpline for support with mass switching - 0161 275 7390.
