12 March 2020

Update: 30 March 2020

The Advisory Committee for the Clinical Excellence Awards (ACCEA) has suspended its 2020 round due to the increasing impact of COVID-19 on all NHS staff. There is now no need to complete an application form.

Any applications submitted to BSR will not be valid. ACCEA is implementing contingency plans for new applications and has said that it will ensure that those whose awards expire in April 2021 are not disadvantaged by being unable to submit a renewal application.

Further details will be released by ACCEA in the coming weeks and we will keep our members posted.

---

The Advisory Committee for the Clinical Excellence Awards (ACCEA) has announced the dates for its 2020 round: it opens on Friday 13 March, and closes at 5pm on Thursday 7 May.

The scheme is run in England and Wales, and rewards NHS consultants and academic GPs who deliver above and beyond the standard expected of their roles.

Applying for our support

We are a recognised nominating body and are permitted to recommend a limited number of members to ACCEA and provide citations to support their applications. If you would like to be considered for support, you will need to submit an application to ceawards@rheumatology.org.uk well before the official ACCEA closing date.

The deadline to submit applications for our support is 5pm on Friday 27 March. You will be notified via email in the week commencing 13 April as to whether we can support your application for the 2020 round. Please note that there is often fierce competition for the awards and we can only offer support to a limited number of applicants.

If we are unable to support your application, alternative support is available from organisations such as the Royal College of Physicians via a similar process. You can approach more than one nominating body at the same time.

Applying for a renewal

We will also consider supporting applications for renewals. Award holders will need to submit a renewal application if:

  • You received your current award in the 2016 round

  • Your award was last renewed in 2015 (awarded in 2011, 2006, 2001)

In some cases, award holders will be renewing out of the usual cycle. Awards must be reviewed earlier in cases where there is a change in job or significant change in job plan.

Guidance documents and application forms

ACCEA has published guidance for applicants ahead of the 2020 round – please read this carefully before completing your application.

The following two documents must be submitted as a minimum to apply for our support:

There are optional forms you can complete to further strengthen your application. It is suggested that you complete one of the following if you are applying for a Bronze or Silver award, up to two if you are applying for a Gold award, and up to three if you are applying for a Platinum award:

All the relevant forms must be emailed to ceawards@rheumatology.org.uk by 5pm on Friday 27 March. Any forms received after this time will not be considered. Requests for extensions of the deadline will not be granted.
