Building on the successful joint work to establish a shared set of data measures through the JIA (juvenile idiopathic arthritis) CAPTURE work, the BSR has now launched an ambitious new collaborative for sites to work together across the UK to improve JIA outcomes for children, and for young people and their families.

BSR, and its partner organisation Rubius.QI, were delighted to welcome the six successful teams for the first learning event in Brighton last month:

  • Birmingham Children's Hospital, Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust
  • Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust
  • Great North Children's Hospital, News Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • Nottingham Children's Hospital, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
  • University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The learning event, at which the teams started their training in quality improvement methods that include the use of plan-do-study act (PDSA) cycles and rapid cycle improvement, was well attended and lively, with great progress toward its aims already achieved.

We look forward to continuing to work with the teams as they enter an ‘action-period’ to improve the patient-reported experience and outcomes of children and young people with JIA, and to make sure all that we learn through the collaborative is shared with the JIA community.
