This register studies efficacy, toxicity and effects of biologics for treating ankylosing spondylitis (axSpA).
The BSR Ankylosing Spondylitis Register (BSRBR-AS) is a national longitudinal observational study designed to evaluate the real-world safety and effectiveness of biologic therapies in people with axial spondyloarthritis.
The register recruited patients from NHS rheumatology centres across England, Scotland and Wales between 2012 and 2017, and was run by an expert team at the University of Aberdeen.
The dataset continues to support ongoing analyses and contributes to large-scale international collaborations such as EuroSpA, strengthening the global evidence base for patient care.
Over its lifetime, BSRBR‑AS has provided critical insights into treatment effectiveness, quality of life, fatigue, mental health, and work participation. Its findings have reinforced the need for holistic care that goes beyond disease activity scores, while its collaborative European work has strengthened the evidence base for axSpA internationally. Together, these outputs have helped ensure that patient priorities are reflected in both research and clinical care.
