In September 2020, the Health and Social Care Committee for the UK Parliament launched an inquiry on workforce burnout and resilience in the NHS and social care. Stakeholders were asked to consider the increased pressures brought by COVID-19 and the resilience of services to cope with high levels of staff stress.

Our submission looked at how rheumatology services across the UK adapted to the pandemic, and that heavy amounts of pressure and responsibility are still being placed on the NHS workforce to redesign services, prioritise patients and meet the growing backlog of work.

We also highlighted how the strain and stretches that this pandemic has caused emphasises the urgent need for staff recruitment across the rheumatology MDT.
