As we look ahead to the future of rheumatology services, it’s clear that this is a time of significant change across the NHS. New models of care, growing demand, workforce pressures, advances in technology such as AI, and a stronger focus on prevention are all reshaping the way services are designed and delivered. This is an opportunity for us all to play a vital role in shaping the future for our specialty, our teams and, most importantly, our patients.
That is why I’m asking you to take part in our policy-focused member survey. It’s been over a decade since the society has done a member-wide policy survey of this scale, and now is the time to gather your feedback again.
When we bring people with different careers, disciplines, backgrounds and perspectives together, we gain a clearer, broader and more accurate understanding of modern practice - and develop the power to change it. Without that, we risk handing decisions about our future to others who don’t have our insight.
We need your help to build a clear and representative picture of the experiences, challenges and priorities facing rheumatology health care professionals today. The survey findings will play a central role in shaping BSR’s future direction - informing policy development, guiding advocacy priorities, and providing a strong evidence base for the next organisational strategy.
The survey explores cross‑cutting issues affecting clinical practice, workforce, service delivery, and professional development - so covering the issues that matter most to our members.
This is an opportunity for all of you to help shape the future of rheumatology services. By sharing your views, you will help strengthen our collective voice and ensure the society is championing the issues that matter most to our community. So please take a few minutes to complete the survey and thereby help us champion our specialty and influence change on your behalf.
