Over the past 25 years, the BSR registers have built extraordinary real-world evidence resources covering rheumatoid arthritis (RA), juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). This data has helped answer important questions about treatment safety, effectiveness, long-term outcomes and patient experience, leading to research that has influenced clinical practice both in the UK and internationally.
Whether you're a clinician with an idea from your own practice, a trainee looking for a project, an academic developing a grant application or an experienced researcher seeking real-world evidence, the registers are open to new research proposals.
The expert teams at the University of Manchester and the University of Aberdeen have decades of experience working with register data and can help refine research questions, explore what data is available and assess feasibility. The registers also support the development of future research leaders through opportunities such as the NIHR Associate Principal Investigator (API) Scheme. The scheme provides hands-on experience in delivering national clinical research studies, helping participants develop practical research skills and gain recognised research experience. Through involvement in studies such as the BSRBR-RA, participants can contribute to recruitment, data collection and study delivery while working alongside experienced research teams
