BSR is delighted to announce the 6 paediatric rheumatology teams joining the JIA learning collaborative.

  • Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
  • Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust
  • Great North Children’s Hospital, Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • Nottingham Children’s Hospital, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
  • University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Over 18-months, the teams will work together to improve the quality of care for children and young people with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Three face-to-face sessions will equip the teams with quality improvement (QI) skills and provide an opportunity to discuss best practice and learn from each other. Between each session, teams put their learning into practice, supported by a dedicated improvement coach.

BSR Director of Practice and Quality, Sarah Campbell said, “Collaborative learning for improvement is a new approach for BSR but one known to be successful. Our members from the paediatric community, in partnership with patient and family representatives, have been instrumental in shaping this opportunity to ensure that it will form the basis of a nationwide improvement in the standard of JIA care”.

Speaking in his role as co-chair of JIA Learn, Dr Gavin Cleary said, “This is a once in a generation opportunity to come together to improve the standard of care for our patients. I’m excited to be working with the 6 teams through a bespoke improvement package. Alongside Dr Flora McErlane, we will ensure that this work is meaningful to all colleagues from across the paediatric rheumatology community.”
