17 August 2022

On Tuesday 30 August, we'll open nominations for a range of committee vacancies, including key roles on the Board and MDT Advisory Council.

Your time, skills and expertise are essential in helping deliver our strategic aims. In return, you’ll get to contribute to exciting projects that make a real difference, influence the purpose of the society and leave a legacy in rheumatology.

Vacancies

This year's elections are more important than ever as we elect four key roles to the Board of Trustees, we're looking for:

  • A consultant that can lead on BSR's new strategy as the next President
  • Someone with a flair for finance who can take on the role of Treasurer
  • A health professional keen to represent nurses and allied health professionals as a Vice President
  • And a paediatric rheumatology consultant who can represent paediatric and adolescent rheumatology as a Vice President

We also have important roles on the rest of our committees where we're seeking:

  • Education expertise to join the Education Committee and help deliver our education programme
  • Members interested in research to join the Registers and Research Committee
  • Policy and service improvement enthusiasts for the Clinical Affairs Committee
  • Any members looking to shape the Annual Conference programme through the Heberden Committee
  • And trainees in Northern Ireland, Wales and the Midlands and South East England regions to jump on the Trainee's Committee

There are also vacancies across the England regions of the MDT Advisory Council, vital to ensuring we have local representation in our work.

Representation matters
We’ve worked hard to ensure our committees are reflective of our multidisciplinary membership to put us in the best position to serve our members and the rheumatology community.

We want to keep that momentum going and encourage nominations from members of all levels of experience, regardless of professional background. This year we’d really like to see more member nominations from devolved nations and paediatric and adolescent rheumatology and across the following roles:

  • Nurses
  • Allied health professionals
  • Pharmacists
  • Psychologists
  • Physician associates

Will I be right for a role?
Have you thought about nominating yourself but aren’t sure you have enough experience? Perhaps you’re unsure of the time commitment involved?

Look out for our elections webinar and a series of drop-in sessions that will provide insight on what it’s like to be on a committee, the elections process and the training and induction on offer for new committee members. Our speakers will discuss how committee roles have supported their personal and professional development and will address some of the common issues that often deter members from seeking election.
