As we lead up to the launch of our flagship Annual Conference, we've caught up with BSR President Dr Sanjeev Patel as he tells us about his programme highlights.

It’s the first time I'm doing the President’s Picks for Annual Conference; I'm so pleased to see that going online for this year’s conference has not reduced the number of interesting and exciting sessions on offer.

As always, I'm looking forward to the Heberden Round by Prof Karen Walker-Bone, focusing on 'Making rheumatology work for patients', and the Heberden Oration, delivered by Prof Costantino Pitzalis, on 'A molecular pathology journey into the rheumatoid joint: toward a new taxonomy of disease and precision medicine'.

There's plenty on COVID-19 and impact on patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, on work and musculoskeletal health, how the multidisciplinary team has adapted clinical practice during the pandemic (sessions 39 and 66), what we've learnt from registers, hyperinflammation and COVID-19, the trainee experience during the pandemic and original research in the COVID-19 oral session. All of these will help us continue to manage patients and ourselves as we continue to deal with the pandemic.

A must-attend? The session on the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit (a flagship project for British Society for Rheumatology) and how we care for patients with early inflammatory arthritis.

Finally, for those who want an update on acute rheumatology, you can do no better than the sessions on rheumatological emergencies and life-threatening multi-system autoimmune rheumatic diseases.
