Homecare medicines services deliver vital medicines to approximately 500,000 people a year who live with incurable and debilitating conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and axial spondyloarthritis.

Our members are aware of patients experiencing anxious waits and delays in taking their planned medications or starting new drug treatments with members from 14 NHS trusts already reporting issues, a number that is growing as we consult further. Delays and missed doses give rise to patient safety concerns about long-term health damage, and avoidable outpatient activity, and place increasing pressures on already stretched rheumatology teams.

On behalf of our members, BSR is asking for a government sponsored independent inquiry into Homecare Medicines Services.
