The Paediatric Global Task Force for Musculoskeletal Health is working to improve the musculoskeletal (MSK) health of children and young people (CYP) worldwide. Founded by Prof Helen Foster, Professor of Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology at Newcastle University, the Task Force aims to raise awareness about unmet needs for CYP with MSK conditions.
Our Vice President and Chair of the BSPAR Section Dr Jacqui Clinch says: “The huge inequality of access to care for young people with MSK disease is an issue that desperately needs highlighting and addressing as an international paediatric and adolescent rheumatology community.
"BSR is committed to supporting the groundbreaking work undertaken by the Paediatric Global Task Force for MSK Health. By working with this visionary team, our healthcare community will further help raise awareness about unmet needs for CYP with MSK conditions and potentially become involved in key Task Force projects globally."
Prof Foster says: “There have been considerable advances in the treatment options for CYP and clinical outcomes are improving for those who can access such high-quality care. However, vast inequity exists and many CYP live in areas of the world with a high burden of health care challenges, compounded by paucity of specialist care and limited access to treatments.
She adds: “More needs to be done and can be done through ‘working better together’ to harness existing and emerging knowledge, innovations in models of care and training, and technical advances to make real change.”
