16 February 2023

I’d like to open my message with important news about your conference and networking opportunities in 2023. This year’s key opportunity is a dedicated paediatric and adolescent rheumatology day at BSR 23 Annual Conference in Manchester 24-26 April. You’ll enjoy exceptional tailored education and networking for our community (including those in general paediatrics as well as our tertiary centres).

Thank you Jo Walsh, Eve Smith and Sam Deepak who have worked tirelessly with the Heberden Committee to put together an exciting dedicated paediatric and adolescent programme on Tuesday 25 April. There’ll be expert speakers, workshops and networking events aimed at everyone in our specialty. All of this is packaged up in an exclusive single day rate for the paediatric community, with additional savings if you book an earlybird ticket by 28 February.

Here are some conference highlights to draw your attention to:

  • 24 April Heberden Round, a keynote session delivered by Prof Lucy Wedderburn
  • 25 April Dedicate paediatric and adolescent day that includes; PIMS, Sjögren’s syndrome, Uveitis, Autoinflammatory disease, Paediatric rheumatology emergencies and the Barbara Ansell Address delivered by Prof AV Ramanthan.
  • 25 April Networking events including a paediatric reception after the Ansell address and meetups through the day for nurses, AHPs and first-time attendees.

It's important to note that there isn't a separate paediatric conference later this year, so please do make sure you join me at BSR23 Annual Conference for your dedicated content.

Remember, there are funding and additional saving opportunities that can help with your educational needs:

  • Bursaries of up to £300 are available to attend our educational courses this year. And good news, eligibility rules have been update which means previous applicants may be able to apply again. We can accept applications pre or post-event.
  • New members can join at 50% discount and immediately access special conference rates. Additionally, new trainee, AHP, pharmacist, psychologist or nurse members are eligible to apply for the bursary. Please contact the membership team for more info.

Looking ahead to Annual Conference 2024

Peter Bale (Education committee) and Jo Walsh (Heberden committee) are already looking ahead to BSR24 Annual Conference next year in Liverpool. There will be even more opportunities for the community to deliver educational content, showcase local expertise and ensure we continue to build our network and charity links. I’m encouraging everyone over the coming months start to thinking about potential sessions as we will be inviting submissions for next year’s event between 27 April and 1 June 2023.

Other education dates for this year's diary

  • Developmentally appropriate care for young people, 30 March, Leeds
  • Rheumatology practice for allied health professionals, 7 July, online
  • Core skills in rheumatology, 23-24 November, online

Opportunities to get more involved

I’m keen to highlight the importance of seeking nomination/finding out more about how you can get involved in key work of the society. It’s essential if we are to continue to build on our existing paediatric and adolescent representation. For more information about opportunities, please get in touch.
