Overview

Our Research Funding Call supports members with little or no previous engagement with research; this award helps them develop their research career.

This research funding award supports you in moving to the next level in your research career. It:

  • helps you progress towards fulfilling your long-term career goals
  • links you into research opportunities
  • supports multidisciplinary team (MDT) aspirations in research
  • provides a clear support and development commitment from us, and;
  • strengthens the UK rheumatology research base
The award is for short pieces of research work (six months to a year), and is for either a standalone research project or a pilot study, which could lead to a larger grant or PhD application.

The work can be undertaken full-time or part-time; we suggest project proposal costs of £20k-£40k.

Areas prioritised for support in 2021 are:
  • Research recommendations resulting from published BSR guidelines
  • Using BSR registers or audit data
  • Paediatric and adolescent rheumatology
  • Important research areas identified by members are: health services research, chronic pain (including fibromyalgia) and rare diseases, and COVID-19 impact on rheumatology patients
