We're looking for new committee members to help us deliver our strategic aims. If you'd like to use your skills or expertise on one of our committees, nominations for vacant posts are now open, closing Friday 21 February at 5pm.


Committee vacancies

We have several committees that focus on different areas of work, such as policy, service improvement, delivering the annual conference and our educational programme. Joining one of these committees mean that you will get to contribute to exciting projects that make a real difference.

Registers Committee

Chair Elect: responsible for leading and guiding the committee and society to achieve its aims. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an advanced understanding of the patient registers. Chairs training will be provided to the successful applicant.


4x Committee members: works with the Chair and supports them to achieve committee aims, providing an independent perspective on registers and research.


Heberden Committee

Chair Elect: has a key role in advancing knowledge and practice in rheumatology, working with the committee to develop the programme for the annual conference. Candidates should have experience of being involved in organising large scientific events. Chairs training will be provided to the successful applicant.


5x Committee members: applications from nurses are strongly encouraged, as are applications from non-clinical scientists. Similarly, we are seeking applications from members from the devolved nations.


Clinical Affairs Committee

1x Committee member: will work with the Chair and support them to achieve the aims of the committee. May be responsible for responding to external consultations under the direction of the Chair.


Education Committee

3x Committee members: applications from all members are welcome, particularly from nurses or colleagues working in the devolved nations. It is essential that anyone applying for a position on the Education Committee can demonstrate a track record of delivering rheumatology education.


Specialist section vacancies

We have three specialist sections to represent our trainee members, nurses and health professionals, and those working in paediatric and adolescent rheumatology. Joining one of these committees means you get to influence the purpose of the society and leave a legacy in rheumatology.

BSPAR Section Council

Conference Officer: attends Heberden Committee meetings and ensures BSPAR Section Council is kept updated with actions and progress

Clinical Affairs Officer: represents BSPAR Section Council at Clinical Affairs Committee meetings and provides updates on topics relating to policy and clinical affairs

Education Officer: attends all Education Committee meetings, as well as BSPAR Section Council meetings. Includes taking the lead in the delivery of at least one workstream, and attending face to face courses, conferences or fellowships.


BHPR Section Council

Conference Officer: responsible for the BHPR stream at annual conference, attends Heberden Committee meetings as a consequence, and keeps BHPR Section Council updated with actions and progress.

Clinical Affairs Officer: represents BHPR at Clinical Affairs Committee meetings and updates BHPR Section Council on topics relating to policy and clinical affairs.

The members of the Board set the strategic direction of the society’s work and Council representatives are responsible for supporting our members at a regional level; these posts are great for developing leadership skills.
