Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, rheumatology trainees are currently required to cover acute General Medical services and will have questions about their training progress and opportunities. BSR is keeping the situation under close review, but trainees should contact their local regional BSR Trainee representative with specific concerns on bsr@rheumatology.org.uk.

Dr Elizabeth Reilly, Chair of the Trainees Committee and BSR Trustee, says: "The postponement of the MRCP(UK) and SEC exam, delay in clinical rotations and the augmentation of service provision within junior doctors' roles will all have an impact over the coming months.

"This has already been reflected in the relaxation of the criteria for workplace-based assessments. Those close to completion of training (CCT) should review their individual outstanding learning objectives with their educational supervisors."

CPD update

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) highly recommends that all clinicians gain 50 hours of CPD per year, but this is recommendation only and the General Medical Council does not require a fixed number of credits to be achieved for practice to continue.

RCP has communicated this to its members for clarification and reassurance and has also reinforced this message with appraisers, approvers and other royal colleges.

We are currently working with the RCP to get our eLearning accredited for CPD in the future; further guidance can be found below:
